Today I experimented with natural dyes. I used tea, red onion skins, white onions skins and turmeric. You can’t really see it but the white onion skin came out a lovely pale orange colour. The turmeric makes an amazing yellow and I’m looking forward to trying out different concentrations. I used an old pair of tights to hold my onion skins, boiled them for half an hour, added the fabric and left it to soak for another hour. I then rinsed and dried it, but the colour was a little pale so I soaked them again for a further hour to make the colour stronger. Then another rinse and a dry later and I’ve got some naturally dyed fabric for my next quilt. Simple!

Wow, they look so good! I read about natural dying in a magazine and after seeing your results I’m definitely going to have to give it a shot!
